Resident speaks out against illegal immigration

To the editor:

With the exception of the Native American, and, of course, our past history of slavery, we’re all ancestral immigrants of those who willfully came to our shores from somewhere beyond our borders. That the vast remainder of our forefathers ultimately came here as immigrants is a fact, but what is also fact is that they did so respectfully, through the acceptable and legally established pathway from elsewhere around the world, all coming to our land of freedom to enjoin in this greatest of all mankind’s experiments — America’s free society.

However, I would posit it has now devolved into becoming something altogether different, analogous to a breaking and entering of sorts — a literal home invasion into our nation’s private home. Considering that not even with all of the government’s immense power can it ever come into one’s private dwelling uninvited without a warrant, a man’s home is his castle. The Constitution says so. Criminal home invaders, however, exercise no such restraint. The law be damned, they simply impose their will.

In drawing an apt analogy, I ask the reader, imagine how you would feel if, in the middle of the night, a completely strange, not to mention uninoculated, family stealthily broke into your domicile and just made themselves right at home, refusing to leave, then proceeded to all sit down at your kitchen table, freely help themselves to all the food in your refrigerator, to whatever’s in your kitchen pantry and cabinets, then leisurely spread out throughout your home, went through and took whatever they wished from your medicine cabinet, the clothes from your closets, as well as any and all of your other personal belongings, to include your wallet and checkbook — and then irrationally demanded their right to not only stay, but to everything that’s yours simply because, they reason, where they come from, they don’t have what you have.

We’re supposed to be a sovereign country, a nation of laws. We have on the books a pathway to legal immigration. Those who are genuinely welcomed here with open arms honor our laws and use it. Those who don’t are not welcome. But, administration after administration in Washington, along with feckless Congresses, have completely abrogated their responsibility to protect us against this invasion. By their looking the other way, all the while our very sovereignty is spat upon by an army of illegal invaders as they steal past our borders and into the night. Might we begin asking ourselves why? What’s next — our very homes? Really, I ask, what’s the difference? I say it’s one and the same, for what would you call an uninvited home invader, an “undocumented visitor”?
