To the editor:

In a recent Leader publication, I saw an ad from the Republican candidate for Summit County fiscal officer. The ad suggested that I should vote for this candidate because he is “for lower taxes.” I would like this candidate to explain how he intends to lower my taxes. The fees and taxes that the Fiscal Office collects are established by state and local governments, not by the fiscal officer. The political ad for the Republican candidate shows a complete lack of understanding about what the fiscal officer does.

In my professional dealings, I have had numerous opportunities to interact with the current fiscal officer, Kristen Scalise, and her staff. I have found them to be efficient and helpful to me and the public in general. Ms. Scalise is very bright and personable and I certainly intend to vote for her over someone who makes promises that he has no ability to keep.
