NEO Preparedness Day is April 13

FAIRLAWN —The American Red Cross, in partnership with Dominion East Ohio, will hold a Preparedness Day April 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Summit Mall, 3265 W. Market St.

The goal is to teach participants the importance to “Be Red Cross Ready” in the event of an unforeseeable disaster.

Throughout the day, participants will be given the opportunity to take a pretest and post-test to determine their safety/preparedness knowledge. The five-minute test and follow-up will be completed by trained Red Cross and Dominion volunteers.

Those who take both parts of the test will receive a safety backpack sponsored by Dominion East Ohio. The backpack will be filled with safety supplies such as an emergency blanket, glow sticks, first aid kit, emergency drinking water, face mask, gloves and information.

KAB asks for volunteers, announces new social volunteer hub

AKRON — Keep Akron Beautiful (KAB) encourages people of all ages to volunteer for Akron’s upcoming Clean up Akron Month/Great American Cleanup events.

In 2013, Clean up Week became Clean up Akron Month at the suggestion of the newly created Neighborhood Assistance Department. This litter reduction and collection campaign was shifted to a month-long event to better help the neighbors who utilize the city parks and community centers, according to KAB officials.

For the entire month of April, KAB will provide cleanup supplies for free and arrange for free disposal. Visit www.KeepAkronBeautiful.org to register for Clean up Akron Month/Great American Cleanup.

KAB also has created another way for citizens to become involved with Clean up Akron Month/Great American Cleanup by creating a digital cleanup community. The new interactive social volunteer hub, www.kabcleanup.org, is a place where the efforts of volunteers can be highlighted and their experiences can be shared. By using the #KeepAmericaBeautiful hashtag in tweets, Instagram photos and Foursquare check-ins, volunteers can connect with other volunteers across the nation.
