Medina County treasurer sets July 12 as due date for second-half real estate taxes

MEDINA — Medina County Treasurer John Burke has announced July 12 is the due date for payment of second-half 2012 real estate taxes. More than 80,000 tax bills are being printed and were expected to be mailed by June 11.

Tax payments, if sent by mail, must be postmarked by July 12 to avoid a late penalty. Payments also can be made in person at the Treasurer’s Office, located in the County Administration Building at 144 N. Broadway St. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the office remaining open until 6 p.m. July 12. Also, 24-hour drop-off deposit boxes are located outside the Treasurer’s Office.

Residents also may use the treasurer’s website for online payments at www.medinacountytreasurer.com/RealEstateTaxes.

NEOSCC offers opportunities to review, comment on Regional Fair Housing Report

NORTHEAST OHIO — The Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium (NEOSCC) is releasing a draft study evaluating fair housing throughout the 12 counties of Northeast Ohio, and Northeast Ohioans are invited to provide comment and make recommendations.

The study, known as a Regional Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice, is based on an analysis of regional and local data, along with input from residents throughout the region. State and federal fair housing laws prohibit discrimination in housing based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, familial status, ancestry or military status.

Earlier this year, NEOSCC held public meetings so residents could listen to preliminary findings. Now that the study has been drafted, NEOSCC is again creating opportunities for residents to review the report and provide their knowledge, opinions and feelings about fair housing choice.

The public comment period for the draft report will last through July 9.

The draft study is available online for public review and comment at www.vibrantneo.org. The draft study also may be reviewed in-person (fees may apply for copies) at NEOSCC, 146 S. High St., Suite 800, in Downtown Akron.

NEOSCC staff members will hold community presentations throughout the region to explain the study and solicit feedback and suggested recommendations. Locally, presentations will take place June 19 at: 11:30 a.m. at the Akron Urban League (President’s Hall), 440 Vernon Odom Blvd. in West Akron; and 2:30 p.m. at Medina City Hall (Multi-purpose Room), 132 N. Elmwood Ave. in Medina.

Submit written comments to: NEOSCC, 146 S. High St., Suite 800, Akron, OH 44308 or info@neoscc.org.
