The 2014 Great Big Home + Garden Show will return to the Cleveland I-X Center Feb. 8-16.
A highlight of the event will be the Idea Home, which is a 2,500-square foot Energy Star-efficient home by Perrino Builders & Interiors, according to event officials. The home, called “The Sophia,” bridges the gap between traditional and contemporary styles with large open spaces; beamed 12-foot ceilings in the kitchen, dining and family rooms; a stone fireplace in the family room; a large granite island with plenty of seating in the kitchen; and a large front porch and a rear porch with an outdoor fireplace. The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home has a master suite with a walk-in closet and master spa bath. A “Jack and Jill” bathroom connects the other two bedrooms. The home also has flexible space for a den, living room or fourth bedroom. The floor plan offers three design variations: ranch, colonial or story-and-a-half.
According to event officials, the 2,000-square-foot Dream Basement by Xtend Technologies is designed with the sports fan in mind, with a home theater, game room and bar; 16 leather power-reclining home theater seats; a 7.2-channel surround-sound system; a 120-inch high-definition screen and acoustical sound paneling; and smart-device technology that allows for remote control of all entertainment features, lighting, heating and cooling and door locks.
Landscaping surrounding the Idea Home and Dream Basement is provided by Morton’s Landscaping and showcases a low-maintenance design with raised flowerbeds and a foyer built with Belgard pavers and decorative gravel to complement the colors of the home, according to event officials. Azaleas, astilbes and bulbs brighten the outdoor entertaining area behind the house, while a fence of evergreens creates the feeling of a private outdoor retreat, according to organizers.
The Vacation Home built by Weaver Barns is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom Timber Lodge traditional-style cabin, according to event officials. The rustic design is a timber frame, cedar-trimmed lodge featuring a spacious living room and kitchen with vaulted ceilings. A loft area provides an additional sleeping or living area, and an 8-foot timber frame porch offers a way to enjoy the outdoors.
