DOWNTOWN AKRON — The Akron HBA Home and Flower Show, presented by Window Pro, the Marvin Experts, is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

This year’s show will take place tomorrow, Feb. 28, through March 2 at the John S. Knight Convention Center.

Once again, the Home Builders Association (HBA) Serving Portage and Summit Counties is teaming up with WAKR and WONE to produce an annual prize giveaway. This year’s prizes include the components of a Man Cave. Items such as furniture and a large-screen TV are part of the package. Its total value is more than $10,000. Listeners can qualify to win on air.

John Gidding, of HGTV’s show “Curb Appeal,” will have tips about how to turn a home into a show place. Also, visiting the show on Saturday will be Channel 3’s meteorologist Betsy Kling. She will be available to chat and sign autographs.

Dr. Lori, an appraiser on the TV show “Auction Kings,” also will be at the show. Dr. Lori is the only celebrity ever brought back two years in a row, according to show organizers. Attendees may bring antiques, artwork and other collectibles, and she will appraise them on the Kemppel Homes Main Stage.

The show has feature gardens sponsored by MJH Contractors, outdoor living exhibits, home decorating, remodeling products and more. The Professional Remodelers Council is producing a Home for Life Display, which will demonstrate a before-and-after bathroom makeover, utilizing the same amount of floor space.

Attendees also may visit the EcoLiving area to learn about sustainable living. Displays will include everything from baby chicks that grow up to be egg-laying hens to vertical vegetable gardens and solar panels to generate electricity. There will be displays on natural foods, recycling and storm water and soil erosion. The entire EcoLiving area is sponsored by Wolff Brothers Supply and SolarMax.

The show will feature Nick’s Grotto sponsored by Silestone distributed by ILSD. The grotto will be built by Nick’s Landscaping, and the countertops are provided by Silestone. The grotto will contain a beer and wine bar featuring beers provided by Thirsty Dog Brewery in Downtown Akron and wines from the Winery at Wolf Creek in Norton.

There will be more than 200 displays in all, according to organizers.

Show hours will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $8, and discount tickets are available online at www.AkronHomeandFlowerShow.com.
