Ohioans getting help with home repairs

OHIO — Twenty-six local organizations are receiving grants to help low-income Ohioans complete home repairs and to provide homebuyer counseling. The Ohio Development Services Agency is granting $5.68 million to support health and safety home repairs, improve handicapped accessibility and provide down payment assistance and homebuyer counseling.

Locally, Area Agency on Aging 10B will receive $266,000, Community Action of Wayne/Medina will receive $242,000 and East Akron Neighborhood Development Corp. will receive $50,000.

Grants from the Housing Assistance Grant Program will help repair more than 2,000 homes and provide 62 families with down-payment assistance or homebuyer counseling, according to agency officials.

Ohioans assisted must be at or below 50 percent of the area median income for home repairs and at or below 65 percent of the area median income for down-payment assistance and homebuyer counseling. The program is funded by the Ohio Housing Trust Fund.


Board of Revision complaint forms due by March 31

SUMMIT COUNTY — Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen Scalise reminds taxpayers the deadline to file a complaint form (DTE 1) against the valuation of real property is March 31.

Taxpayers who do not agree with the valuation of their property have the opportunity to file a complaint with the Board of Revision for review of property values. When a complaint is filed, the Board of Revision will schedule a hearing, review all testimony and evidence presented, and then issue a decision on whether a correction should be made to the valuation. The board does not hear complaints regarding real estate taxes.

The DTE 1 form is required to be signed, dated and notarized. Submissions must be postmarked on or before March 31. Complaint forms can be hand delivered or mailed to the Summit County Fiscal Office, 175 S. Main St., Room 302, Akron, OH 44308 or the satellite office at Summit County Board of Revision, 2525 State Road, Room 153, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223.

Property owners may obtain the DTE 1 form by calling 330-643-2631 or at fiscaloffice.summitoh.net and choosing the Board of Revision Complaint link on the home page. The complaint form is a PDF fill-in.

Board of Revision members are the fiscal officer, county executive, county clerk of courts and/or their representatives.
