Local martial arts students competing in tournaments

GREATER AKRON — Josh Minnick and Celeste Hall, shown at right, two students from the Korean martial arts studio The Moo Duk Kwan Center, qualified to compete in the U.S. Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan National Festival and Tournament as part of the sparring team for their region (Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan).

According to center officials, Minnick began studying Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan under Sa Bom Nim Kozak in 1999. He became a certified assistant instructor (Jo Kyo) and achieved his current rank of Sam Dan (third degree black belt) in 2010.
Hall began studying under Sa Bom Nim Kozak in 2006, according to center officials. She achieved her current rank of Cho Dan (first degree black belt) in 2011.
