SOUTH AKRON — The 75th anniversary of the All-American Soap Box Derby was marked at this year’s annual event. Youths from around the globe descended on Akron for a week of activities that culminated in the big day July 21 when racing action took center stage at Derby Downs. The track on race day is shown at right top.

Among the local racers who participated was Trinity Kubick, Akron Metro champ, of Cuyahoga Falls, who is shown at right bottom as she awaits her run during the final rounds of competition.

Also participating was Cuyahoga Falls resident Freddy Atchison, who is pictured at left top as he gets set in the starting gate. Atchison placed first in the Masters Rally division, according to derby officials. His derby car is shown at left bottom in the foreground as it begins its descent down the famed hill.

Other local youths participating in the Derby were Michael Becenti, of Fairlawn, Masters Rally; Kayley Long, of Akron, Rally Stock; Christian Viering, of Fairlawn, Stock Rally; and Elyssa Zablo, of Copley, Super Stock Rally.
