U16 Internationals win national championship

GREATER AKRON — The U16 Internationals 95-Reds girls soccer team won the U.S. Club National Championships.

More than 100 of the top teams in the nation started the tournament in their prospective states, with only a few qualifying for regional play, according to team officials. The girls proceeded to play teams from Minnesota, Southern California and Utah on their path to the finals. They defeated the West Coast Soccer Club from the San Francisco area 2-0 to become the national champions.

The team, shown at left, consists of members from Northeast Ohio and includes local players: Anna Haverchak and Beth Moore, of Copley High School; AnnaRose Wiencek and Courtney Kohmann, of Highland High School; Marissa Milazzo, of Revere High School; Shea O’Brien of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School; and Katilyn Semelsberger and Jess Hlosek, of Walsh Jesuit High School.

The team is coached by Zdravko Popovic and Keri Sarver.
