Falls karate students shine at tournament

CUYAHOGA FALLS — Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium karate students competed in the ninth annual Kid’s Fun Karate Tournament held in Dalton Oct. 14, with events in kata (forms), kumite (fighting), chanbara (soft sword), jujitsu, grappling and kobudo (weapons).

Seven Natatorium karate students took home awards. Local winners, shown at right from left, are: (front row) Cheyenne Budd, 10, who earned first place in kata; Miles Kuse, 8, who earned first place in kata; and CJ Budd, 8, who earned first place in kumite; and (back row) Mason Krise, 11, who earned first place in chanbara, second place in jujitsu, second place in grappling, first place in kumite, second place in kobudo and second place in kata; Julian Selvaggio, 13, who earned first place in kata and third place in chanbara; and Elizabeth Breen, 13, who earned first place in kata and first place in weapons. Not pictured is Natatorium student CJ Varga, 9, who earned third place in kata.
