STVM hoping to take home seventh state championship

CANTON — The St. Vincent-St. Mary (STVM) High School boys basketball team advanced to the Division II state semifinals after defeating Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA) and Warrensville Heights High School.

The road to qualifying for state began with a 54-37 regional semifinal win over CVCA March 14 at the Canton Civic Center. The Fighting Irish then defeated Warrensville Heights 57-48 in the regional final March 16.

According to STVM officials, the regional final win was the 11th in STVM’s history, and the Fighting Irish (19-9) will attempt to win the school’s seventh state championship when it takes on Vincent Warren High School (26-1) today, March 21, at 5:15 p.m. in the state semifinals at Value City Arena in Columbus. If STVM wins, the team will play in the state final March 23 at 1:30 p.m. at Value City Arena.
