SHARON — Former Ohio State University (OSU) football coach Jim Tressel and former OSU football player Mike Kudla were the surprise guest speakers during a special assembly May 22 at Sharon Elementary School.

The assembly was held in honor of those students who read 500 minutes or more each month (October through April) during Highland’s annual reading program.

Tressel, who currently serves as the vice president of strategic engagement at The University of Akron, spoke to students about the importance of reading and making good choices in life. He, along with Kudla, who is a former NFL player and current director of development at the Fisher College of Business at OSU, also read to the students and encouraged them to develop their reading and writing skills on a daily basis.
