“We’re excited to show everyone our new uniforms,” said Akron RubberDucks General Manager Jim Pfander. “The historic Akron Civic Theatre is the perfect venue to host Family Fun Day and to get people warmed up for the 2014 season.”
With spring training right around the corner, there will be something for all ages to get in the baseball spirit at Family Fun Day, according to RubberDucks officials. Children will be able to enjoy an assortment of interactive stations in the lobby, including face painting, balloon art and coloring stations. Children will also get a chance to design the cover of one of the official Akron RubberDucks game programs during the 2014 season, according to RubberDucks officials.
There will be hot dogs and baseball-style refreshments for purchase, as well as a chance to buy authentic, first-year RubberDucks merchandise and season tickets, according to RubberDucks officials. The Mighty Wurlitzer also will play baseball music favorites in the auditorium, along with last season’s highlights shown on the big screen.
Also during the event, the RubberDucks will have in-game style promotions, including chances to win RubberDucks T-shirts.
At 3:45 p.m. in the auditorium, audience members will have a chance to win some RubberDucks T-shirts and see the unveiling of the new team uniforms. Fans had a sneak peek at the home jersey during the city of Akron’s Welcome Santa Parade this past November, but fans will be able to see the full uniforms, which include home, road, Sunday alternate, home/road alternate and batting practice varieties.
The doors will open at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person or $20 for a family (no family-size limit), or admission is free with a can of food, per person, which will be donated to Harvest for Hunger. Tickets are available at the Akron Civic Theatre Box Office, by calling 330-253-2488 or online at www.akroncivic.com, or through TicketMaster at 800-745-3000.
The Akron RubberDucks are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. According to RubberDucks officials, the 2014 season will be its 18th since moving to Canal Park and its first since becoming the RubberDucks. The team will begin its season April 3 at Binghamton, and the home opener at Canal Park is scheduled for April 10 at 6:35 p.m. against the Bowie Baysox.
