CVCA boys, STVM girls place second at state track meet
GREATER AKRON — Several area high school athletes qualified to compete in the State Track and Field Tournament, which took place June 6-7 at The Ohio State University.
The following is a rundown of top results, according to the Ohio High School Athletic Association, from schools in the South Side News Leader’s coverage area.
Boys Division I
Walsh Jesuit High School’s Alex Rodriguez placed 14th in the long jump.
Also competing at state was Coventry High School’s Zack Lake in the 400-meter dash.
Girls Division I
Walsh’s Melinda Renuart placed 10th in the 1600-meter run.
Green High School’s Olga Branney placed eighth in the high jump. Fellow Lady Bulldog Emily Hooker also competed at state in the 400-meter dash.
Boys Division II
Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA) took home the second-place title, with several top finishers.
The 4x800-meter relay team placed first with Noah LeBay, Caleb Gary, Ben Bockoven and Ryan Adams.
Adams also earned two championship titles in the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter run. He also was part of the 4x400-meter relay team of Evan Carroscia, Derek Mosher and Brandon Harris that placed fifth.
Carroscia placed seventh in 110-meter hurdles and third in the 300-meter hurdles.
Bockoven placed fifth in the 1600-meter run and 14th in the 3200-meter run.
In the 200-meter dash, Harris placed ninth. Fellow Royal Jake Sprague placed 14th in the pole vault.
St. Vincent-St. Mary (STVM) High School’s team finished in 20th and was led by several top 20 finishers.
Parris Campbell, who placed third in 100-meter dash, was part of the 4x100-meter relay team of Vince Lockett, Jarel Woolridge and Tyler Moran that finished eighth. He also was a member of the 4x200-meter relay team of Jordan Sensabaugh, Tyler Moran and Woolridge that placed ninth.
The 4x800-meter relay team of Nick Campbell, Joe Rossetti, Corey Large and Brian Heller placed 11th.
In the 1600-meter run, Nick Campbell placed eighth.
Fellow teammate Jordan Sensabaugh placed sixth in the 400-meter dash.
Travonte Junius placed 11th in the long jump.
Girls Division II
STVM placed second and CVCA placed seventh.
STVM’s 4x200 team of Eryca Garrett, Payton Pooler, Katie Goedecke and Imani Davis led the Fighting Irish with a second-place finish. Davis also placed fifth in the 400-meter dash.
The 4x800-meter relay team of Rachel Iacofano, Cynthia Haas, Grace Davis and Julia Mendiola placed fourth. Mendiola also placed seventh in the 800-meter run.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Marie Hammer placed third.
For CVCA, Sammy Bockoven placed first in the 1600-meter run and fourth in the 800-meter run. She also was part of the 4x400-meter relay team of Lydia Carroscia, Jaya Wilson and Autumn Young that placed fifth.
Fellow Lady Royal Whitney Gibbons placed 15th in the pole vault.
Green also placed seventh in the 100-meter dash.
Manchester High School had two athletes compete at state. Grier Cowles competed in the 400-meter dash and Alyssa Matheny placed 15th in the high jump.
