WEST AKRON — The Cleveland Fury went up against the Toronto Selfies during a wet soccer match Aug. 11 at the Copley Road Soccer Complex as part of Gay Games 9.

Wet weather did not diminish competitive play. Billy Thomas (no. 29), of the Fury, and Mulham Tayara (no. 33), of the Selfies, are shown at right bottom going up for a ball.

Later, Thomas watched his shot go in for the first goal of the match, shown at top.

Fury player Vincent Rosati, on right, is shown at right top battling Selfie player Intikhab Ali for the ball.

Aggressive defense by Toronto goalkeeper Nick Johnson kept Mark Owens from scoring late in the game, shown below.

Cleveland won the match 5-0.

Gay Games 9 are being held at Cleveland and Akron venues through Aug. 16. [For a list of Akron events, see “Akron hosting variety of Gay Games 9 events,” in the Aug. 7, 2014, edition or visit our archives online at www.akron.com.]
