Area athletes excel at state track tournament - SSNL

COLUMBUS — Several area high school athletes competed in the Boys and Girls State Track and Field Tournament, which took place June 5-6 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at The Ohio State University.

The following are results from schools in the South Side News Leader coverage area, according to the Ohio High School Athletic Association. For complete results, visit  the Web site www.ohsaa.org.

Boys Division I

In the 3200-meter run, Green High School Bulldog Dylan Papp placed seventh.

Boys Division II

Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA) finished in 16th place at the state tournament, which included 69 teams.

CVCA’s Brad Adams placed third in the 800-meter run, with fellow teammate Ross Crocker placing eighth. CVCA’s 4x800-meter relay team of Crocker, Matt Mucha, Kyle Sullinger and Adams placed fourth.

St. Vincent-St. Mary High School’s (STVM) Doran Grant finished third in the 110 hurdles.

Girls Division I

Green High School senior Kelsie Ahbe could not retain her pole vault state title, as she placed second.

Girls Division II

The CVCA girls team had a successful showing at state and tied for first place with Columbus Bishop Hartley High School. Archbishop Hoban High School finished in fourth.

For the Lady Royals, several finishes within the top three helped the team win the state championship co-title. Placing third were: the 4x800-meter relay team of Katie Gillespie, Irene Frangos, Brittany Fabris and Carolyn Case; 4x400-meter relay team of Lisa Worthey, Lauren James, Case and Taylor James; Jeanette Pettigrew in the 200-meter dash; Gillespie in the 3200-meter run; and the 4x100-meter relay team of Brittainy Erby, Taylor James, Worthey and Chanel VanDyke. Erby, Taylor James, Worthey and Chanel VanDyke also placed fourth in the 4x200-meter relay.

Pettigrew also placed fourth in the 100-meter dash.

Case finished in second in the 1600-meter run.

Leading Hoban was Julianna Libertin, who won the 800-meter run. Libertin also was on the 4x800 team that finished in third. That team also included Kaitlyn Chrostowski, Allie Weiss and Margaret Woods.

Libertin also placed third in the 1600-meter run.

Hoban’s Brittany Brown placed second in the 400-meter dash and third in the 100-meter dash.

STVM’s Erica Hutson placed sixth in the 400-meter dash. STVM’s 4x800-meter relay team of Emily Tomei, Molly Miloscia, Samantha Kirk and Marie Arnone finished in fifth.
