Springfield football team continues winning season

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield High School sophomore Dillon Matthews led the host Spartans to a win over Coventry High School during a rainy football game Oct. 23.

Matthews rushed for 218 yards and four touchdowns to help the Spartans (6-3, 4-2) defeat the Comets 33-15. Matthews had a 67-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and a 76-yard touchdown run in the second.

Matthews is also shown at left bottom at far right being tackled by Comet Shawn Banner (No. 60), at middle, with Comet David English (No. 3) close behind.

Shown at right bbottom is Spartan Dustin Moneypenny (No. 9), at left, slipping in mud on an attempt to block Comet Colton May’s (No. 22) kick.

For Coventry (0-9, 0-6), David Bulgrin led with 109 yards and a touchdown and Randy Henline had a 63-yard touchdown run.

The regular season will end for both teams tonight, Oct. 30.

Coventry will be on the road and play Field High School at 7 p.m.

Springfield also will play away, at Ravenna High School at 7 p.m.
