WEST AKRON — Goodwill Industries of Akron serving Summit, Portage, Medina, Ashland and Richland counties celebrated 85 years of service at its 2012 annual meeting March 29 at the Tangier.

The event featured a networking reception, and President and CEO Nancy Ellis McClenaghan introduced the “i will” concept as featured in the agency’s 2011 annual report.

A “Celebration of Champions” was the focal point of the evening and included honoring several successful program participants and recognizing businesses that have partnered with Goodwill to provide skills training opportunities for participants, hired Goodwill graduates or who have used the agency’s services to help recruit qualified applicants, according to event officials.

During the brief business presentation, Shelby Morgan, president of the Board of Directors, thanked long-time volunteers James Dannemiller, Angela Neeley and Carolyn Pizzuto for their service and welcomed the newly elected slate of officers for 2012-13: chairman, Barry Thoman, of Meaden & Moore; first vice chairman, C. Allen Nichols, of the Wadsworth Public Library; second vice chairman, Gary Rickel, of CB Richard Ellis Inc.; treasurer, Brent Thompson, of Winer & Bevilacqua CPAs; and secretary, Margaret Lazzerini.
