AKRON — On Sept. 27, Alice Luse, regional director of the American Heart Association (AHA), recognized a group of first responders who saved the life of a young Akron boy by performing CPR earlier this summer. Recipients of the Heart Saver Award include: (shown above from left, after Luse) Russ Gross, EMT-P, and Danielle Michel, EMT-P, with the Akron Fire Department; and Shari West, RN, and Angie Karakis, RN, of Akron General Medical Center. Bill Woods, RN, from Akron Children’s Hospital, is not pictured.

According to AHA officials, the young boy became unresponsive at a local swim park earlier this summer. The recipients were applauded for performing CPR and providing the medical attention the boy needed.
