Local medical professionals honored by AHA

AKRON — On Sept. 27, Alice Luse, regional director of the American Heart Association (AHA), recognized a group of first responders who saved the life of a young Akron boy by performing CPR earlier this summer. Recipients of the Heart Saver Award include: (shown above from left, after Luse) Russ Gross, EMT-P, and Danielle Michel, EMT-P, with the Akron Fire Department; and Shari West, RN, and Angie Karakis, RN, of Akron General Medical Center. According to AHA officials, the young boy became unresponsive at a local swim park earlier this summer. The recipients were applauded for performing CPR and providing the medical attention the boy needed.
