NORTON — Families enjoyed an evening of holiday cheer Dec. 1 as the city’s annual tree lighting and other events took place in Norton.

Kristina Nemes, 11, a student at Norton Middle School, attended and enjoyed getting a photo with Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed reindeer, as shown at left.

Norton Mayor Mike Zita also attended and is shown at right bottom, at left, with Kim Bergstrom, president of the Norton Women’s Club and event coordinator, and June Maier, who co-chaired the Year of the Tree display with Patsy Snyder, curator of Norton Historical Society. The Year of the Tree display again lit up the driveway of Columbia Woods Park, which was lined with decorated trees donated by local businesses and individuals, as shown at right middle.

Following the lighting, at which Santa Claus arrived with a police escort, families headed to the Shirley L. McGuire Community Center for activities and refreshments. Santa is pictured at right top as he arrived at the center.
