Peninsula lights up for candlelight walk
By Kathleen Folkerth
PENINSULA — The annual candlelight walk in Peninsula brightened up the village the evening of Nov. 29. Kathy Loftus and her son Mickey, 7, who are pictured at left, were among those who attended and enjoyed lighted displays and other activities.
The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad Polar Express also was welcomed, as shown at right middle. Brianna Machuga and Jordan Priddy are shown at top right as they pose for a photo while on their way to the train to work as volunteer elves. Both are from Cuyahoga Falls and attend St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.

The evening also included a special event at the GAR Hall for village officials to accept an award from Ohio Magazine for being named one of the state’s Best Hometowns for 2013. Peninsula Mayor Doug Mayer is shown at right bottom, at left, as he accepts the award from publisher Lute Harmon Jr.
This weekend the village welcomes visitors again for Christmas in Peninsula. Events and activities will take place throughout the community Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, go to www.explorepeninsula.com.
