Woodrow Wilson Chambers, also known as Woody, marked his big birthday Nov. 2, while Ted Kahan turned 100 Nov. 12. A party for both men took place at Chambrel Nov. 2.
Chambers was born the day Woodrow Wilson was elected president in 1912. Chambrel officials said he worked as a salesman most of his life. He was a sales manager at Akron Coffee and Grocery Co., which eventually became Acme.
Chambers, who has lived at Chambrel for nine years, said he credits his healthy lifestyle for his long life.
“I never smoked, never drank, and having good friends helps, too,” he said.
Kahan graduated from the University of Chicago and was a rubber chemist for many years, eventually becoming vice president and director of research for Aldan Rubber Co. He lived in Philadelphia for more than 60 years and was very involved in the arts, Chambrel officials said.
Staff members said he was an avid athlete and participated in Senior Olympics events many years. He’s also known at the senior living community as a dancer.
“Whenever there is an event, he is up front and dancing,” said Kimberly Price, the lifestyles director in Independent Living at Chambrel. “That’s his claim to fame here.”
Chambrel officials said Kahan has two children, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He’s lived at Chambrel for 10 years.
