FAIRLAWN — The Akron Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) held its annual Christmas luncheon at Fairlawn Country Club.

To begin the meeting, chapter officers Reggie Watson, regent; Jill Filo, registrar; and Margie Irwin, chaplain, led the induction ceremony for the group’s newest member, Gail Danford. The group also recognized Gale Hill, who had been welcomed into the chapter in October.

The chapter conducted a brief business meeting that was followed by a presentation by past regent Elaine McIntyre about Christmas in the colonies and reminiscing of holidays past.

Shown above right, from left, at the luncheon, are: (seated) Helen Weyrick, Joyce Ashley, Pat Schaffner, Elaine McIntyre, Watson and Ginny Melver; (middle row) Irwin, Christina Haas, Barbara Clark, Hill, Diana Tornichio, Patricia Nay, Roberta Dodd and Billie Whittum; and (back row) Carolyn Mackey, Rose McIntyre, Michelle Jay, Suzanne Todd, Danford, Mona Reuscher, Sandy Parker, Jean Allread and Filo.

Akron Chapter DAR meets the second Saturday of the month at Fairlawn Country Club, 200 N. Wheaton Road. The Feb. 9 meeting will host guest speaker Robert Wilkinson, chairman of the Valor Home, a residential program providing temporary housing for homeless veterans in the area. Reservations are required. For more information about joining the DAR or attending a meeting, email akronchapterdar@gmail.com.
