Akron Children’s Hospital Oncology Unit

COPLEY — The Seventh Annual Lauren Audrey Braman Memorial Chili Cook-Off and Dessert Bake-Off will take place March 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Copley High School in the Commons. Individuals, teams or restaurants may enter and compete. Each entry should have a theme and should be displayed with decoration to match the theme. Awards will be given for best chili, best dessert, best display, best by popular vote chili, best by popular vote dessert, best student entry, best student display and best restaurant entry. Items are still being donated for the bag raffle. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Admission is $7 per person, but free for children 5 and younger. The entry fee is $30 per entry. Proceeds will benefit teens at Akron Children’s Hospital Oncology Unit. The 2013 Chili Cook-Off is sponsored by Healthy Community/Healthy Youth (HCHY) of Copley. Stewart’s Caring Place: Cancer Wellness Center

GREATER AKRON — The Akron Racers Softball team is underwriting the costs of fundraising materials for Stewart’s Caring Place: Cancer Wellness Center’s Seventh Annual Hope Walk. The contribution comes in the form of 10,000 cardstock footprints, which will be sold at local businesses. Proceeds from the campaign will go toward providing wellness services to cancer patients and their families free of charge. The Footprint Campaign will run through May 11. Footprints are available for $1 at Firestone Stadium, 1575 Firestone Parkway; Beverage Express, 4900 S. Main St.; Bryson’s Sweeper Shop, 85 Ghent Road; and the IGA Portage Lakes SuperCenter, 4045 S. Main St. The Hope Walk will be held May 11 at 8 a.m. It is a 2.3-mile walk circling Summit Mall. Interested walkers can register online at www.StewartsCaringPlace.org. Falls Cancer Club

CUYAHOGA FALLS — The Cuyahoga Falls police and fire departments will compete in the second Hots ’n Shots basketball game April 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Cuyahoga Falls High School gymnasium, 2300 Fourth St. The event will raise funds to help community members who are battling cancer. According to Falls Cancer Club officials, all the money raised from the Hots ’n Shots basketball game will be used to pay pharmacy and medical bills for 56 cancer patients. Spectators will have an opportunity to participate in free-throw and half-court shot competitions during half time. Ticket prices are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for children ages 5-17 and free for children younger than 5. There is a maximum family rate of $20. For groups, there will be two free adult tickets for every 10 paid children’s tickets. Ads and sponsorships are still available.
