FAIRLAWN — The Mature Workers’ Job & Career Fair will take place April 11 at the Hilton Akron/Fairlawn. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event will offer older adults exposure to potential employers, with opportunities to network and fill out applications. Four workshops also will be offered, and admission and parking are free.

Employment & Training Solutions, a division of Mature Services Inc., is putting on the event for the 23rd year, according to organizers. Mature Services, headquartered in Akron, is a nonprofit organization that has been serving older adults since 1975.

“The object of this job fair is to bring together employers who are interested in hiring mature workers because they appreciate the strong work ethic they possess,” according to Paul Magnus, vice president of workforce development for the agency. “We continue to offer it because it works,” he said.

Four free workshops will be offered during the fair, beginning with “Secrets of the Online Application” at 10 a.m.

“In the last few years there has been an increase in the number of companies that require an online application, so one of the free workshops will focus on techniques needed to successfully complete that process,” said Don Zirkle, training and placement supervisor at Mature Services.

At 11 a.m., the Small Business Development Center’s Jim Griggy will present “Doing Your Own Thing!”

“Social Media, LinkedIn, Job Search and You” will take place at noon, followed by “Financial Strategies for the Unemployed” at 1 p.m.

“This job fair always brings in a wide variety of good, qualified people, and our experience in hiring older workers has been excellent,” said Patti Auber, corporate staffing specialist for ComDoc. “They really know how to work, and their commitment to the job is an example to our other employees.”

Professionals from Employment & Training Solutions will be available to review résumés and provide job search guidance, according to event organizers. Also, a computer application station will be available.

Also at the event, interns from The University of Akron again will collect surveys for a series of studies they are doing on the challenges and issues facing mature workers, according to event organizers.

The Hilton Akron/Fairlawn is located at 3180 W. Market St. For more information on the event, go to www.matureservices.org or call 330-762-8666, ext. 174 or ext. 178.
