Former wife of Akron mayor dies
BARBERTON — Mary Plusquellic, 63, the former wife of Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic, passed away July 19. She was found deceased by her brother at about 10:30 that morning in an apartment in the 500 block of Fifth St. N.E., according to the Barberton Police Department.
The couple, who married in 1972, were divorced in 2007.
An autopsy was pending, but a Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office spokesman said the cause of death appeared to be natural and related to cardiac issues.

According to her obituary, she was fond of playing cards and bingo, bowling, watching the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians and working in her yard.
In addition to her parents, Plusquellic was preceded in death by her stepfather, Earl Nickerson, and brother, Michael Goffee. She is survived by her children, Dave (Kelly) and Michelle (Mike) Zupancic; grandchildren, Abby, Ally, Adam, Anna, Evan and Addy; and brothers Ken (Sharon) Goffee and Ron Goffee.
