AKRON — Keep Akron Beautiful (KAB) is now accepting applications for the Community Pride Trailer for this season, which started April 14 and ends Oct. 27.

The trailer, which contains landscape equipment and cleanup supplies, can be used by neighborhoods to spruce up a community garden in preparation for summer or to plant one for the first time. KAB staff transports the trailer and works with a designated project coordinator at each job site.

Bookings for the trailer are now being accepted at www.keepakronbeautiful.org or at the offices of KAB, located at 850 E. Market St. Application forms, requirements, safety commitments and an equipment list are available on both the website and at the offices.

According to KAB officials, last year, in its third year, the trailer was loaned out to help with 21 community projects. Approximately 6,664 volunteer hours were logged, 1,384 more hours than in 2012, and 251 bags of litter were collected; 1,293 flowers, bulbs and trees were planted; and painting was done to remove graffiti.

Some of the organizations utilizing the trailer were: Akron Urban Gardens, Children’s Hunger Alliance, OPEN M, Christ Child Society/First Glance, NEOhaus Institute, Y-Bridge Memorial Gardens, East Akron Community House, Trinity United Church of Christ, The Akron YMCA and The University of Akron Off Campus Student Services. The Community Pride Trailer was introduced three years ago for use by organizations, civic groups and neighborhood volunteers to restore vacant and abandoned property. The trailer was made possible by grants from the Dominion Foundation and Charter One Bank. The program was an award-winning idea taken from the Montgomery County Keep America Beautiful affiliate.

A smaller version trailer for litter and illegal dumping sweeps will be introduced soon.

KAB is a 501(c)(3) agency celebrating 33 years of serving the citizens of Akron by improving Akron’s quality of life through beautification and responsible environmental management, according to KAB officials. For program information, visit the website.
