KAB names Dreamscape Raffle winners

DOWNTOWN AKRON — Keep Akron Beautiful (KAB) officials announced this week that for the first time in 11 years, all 1,500 Dreamscape Raffle tickets were sold to Summit County businesses or residents hoping to win the grand prize of a professionally designed front or backyard makeover valued at $10,000.

According to KAB officials, KAB grossed about $36,000 through the ticket sales to support the 33-year-old public land beautification program Flowerscape, which plants and maintains 34 sites in Akron.

The tickets were sold at five vendor partner retail locations, including Dayton Nurseries Inc., Donzell’s Flower and Garden Center, Graf Growers Garden Center, Paul’s Greenhouse and Suncrest Gardens.

According to KAB officials, the winning tickets was drawn June 5 at Alexander Park on West Market Street by one of the top ticket sellers — Kimberly Haws-Falasco, of Robert W. Baird & Co.

The winners of the Dreamscape Raffle grand prize are Steve Williams and David Jesse, of West Akron. The lead landscape designers for the 11th annual makeover are Lisa and Craig Graf, of Graf Growers Garden Center, who will create a design for the landscape transformation blitz set for Aug. 4-8.

The runner-up prizes donated by Dreamscape’s vendor partners included:

√ First runner-up: J. Nelson, of Akron, who will have a choice of mulch blown into landscaped beds by TerraScape Ltd., owned by Mike Clar;

√ Second runner-up: Bradley Bowers, of Akron, who will receive a birdbath donated by Suncrest Gardens; and

√ Third runner-up: Chastity Duskey, who will receive a $100 gift basket of gardening supplies donated by Graf Growers.

Graf Growers also donated two hanging baskets that were awarded to top ticket sellers Eric Jones, of the KAB Board of Directors, and KAB Board Chairman Akron Police Department Capt. Dan Zampelli.

According to KAB officials, the Dreamscape Raffle was sponsored by SummaCare Inc., the vendor partners mentioned previously and the following vendors offering goods and services for the August landscape makeover: Apex Electric, Belgard® Sales, Cascade Lighting, Circle K, Earth ’n Wood, Gates Landscape Co., Hitchcock Fleming & Associates Inc., Main Street Gourmet, Miller’s Party Rental, Naragon Irrigation, Nick’s Landscaping of Ohio LLC, Pam’s Perennial Plant Farm, Pepsi Beverages Co., R.G. Thomas Landscape & Design Inc., Star Printing Co. Inc., Tim’s Custom Electric, Vision Graphics & Printing, Wilson Plumbing & Heating Inc. and YES Press Printing Co.
