COVENTRY — Jim Vivo, who is in his third year as athletic director at Coventry High School, said he is excited about “all of our programs” this season.

“We have a few new faces in terms of head coaches, and I am excited to see how the programs improve,” he said.

According to Vivo, the new head coaches at Coventry this fall are Neal Kopp, who takes over the football program; and Jim Betty, the school’s new golf coach.

This season, Vivo said, a number of the school’s teams are set up to make quality runs in the postseason, such as “boys and girls cross country, wrestling, girls track and boys and girls soccer.”

“Those are just a few,” he said. “I think all of our programs are in much better shape than when I first arrived three years ago.”

A team ready to go to the next level, Vivo said, is the boys soccer team.

“Boys soccer returns many regulars to a team that made big improvements from the [previous] year,” he said. “Coach Kiel Cox does an outstanding job of getting the most out of his student athletes.”

Vivo said he believes the athletic program at Coventry has improved since he took over the job as athletic director.

“I’d like to think that we’ve brought more accountability to our coaches and student athletes,” he said. “Our Board of Education and Booster Club have done a wonderful job in giving our student athletes every chance at success by providing the ‘extras’ that help to instill pride in our athletic programs.”

Vivo said a number of athletes are expected to stand out this fall, including: senior Carly Fazio, volleyball; senior Zach Haag, boys golf; senior Maurice Hernandez, boys soccer; junior Paige Carlin, girls soccer; junior Megan Mills, girls soccer; senior Beau Cross, football; senior David Bulgrin, football; senior Brandon Burns, football; senior Maddie Klemp, volleyball; senior Stephanie Fry, cross country; senior Brian Butler, cross country; senior Ed Stafford, cross country; freshman Katelyn Kaltwasser, cross country; and Brandon Arnold, cross country.
