GREATER AKRON — The grand-prize winner of the 2021 Summit County Prosecutor’s Office’s 19th annual Safety Kids Calendar contest is Lily Headley, a sixth-grade student at Springfield Local Schools’ Schrop Intermediate School. Lily’s poster told children to be their own beautiful bird for the rule “Trust Yourself — Don’t Give in to Peer Pressure,” according to Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh.
The contest invited students to submit posters on the “12 Ways to Stay Safe,” and first- through third-place winners were chosen in each category, along with two additional winners as Prosecutor Picks. The first-place posters will be featured in the 2021 Safety Kids Calendar and on billboards throughout Summit County.
The awards ceremony, usually held at the Akron-Summit County Main Library, was held virtually Oct. 28, with emcee Tim Daugherty from WONE-FM and WAKR-FM, to recognize the 54 winners.
