Boston trustees examine trash bids



BOSTON — The Boston Township Board of Trustees opened bids for its trash-hauling contract Nov. 23.
Current service supplier Kimble Cos., as well as Rumpke Waste & Recycling, submitted bids for the trash hauling services.
In 2019, trustees approved a three-year contract with Kimble that expires Jan. 31. Households currently pay $20.58 per month plus $5 per additional bag. The current cost bid from Kimble is $22.87 per month plus $5.55 per additional bag in 2023, $23.73 per month plus $5.76 per additional bag in 2024 and $24.62 plus $5.97 per additional bag in 2025.
Rumpke submitted a bid of $23.35 per month plus $3.50 per additional bag.
Trustees moved to accept and table the trash-hauling bids.
In other business, trustee Amy Anderson updated trustees on news from the Valley Fire District (VFD).
Anderson said VFD responded to 52 calls in October, with 20 calls in Boston Heights, one in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) area of Boston Heights, 10 calls in the township, one in the CVNP area of the township; 10 in Peninsula, and one call in the CVNP area of Peninsula, and mutual aid given nine times.
Anderson added VFD’s old tanker was sold for $31,000 online and former township fiscal officer Catherine Anson has been again appointed as VFD’s clerk.
In addition, trustees approved the reappointment of former trustee Jerry Ritch to the Union Cemetery Board for a term ending Dec. 23, 2025.
Also at the meeting, Trustee Bill Clifton reported the Boston-Cuyahoga Falls Joint Economic Development District has received almost $90,000 so far this year.
Announcements included:
• The Community Christmas Bazaar will take place Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Town Hall, located at 1775 Main St. in Peninsula.
• The fourth annual Fill-the-Squad event to benefit Share-A-Christmas, which distributes food and gifts to those in need in the township in partnership with Mother of Sorrows Parish and Peninsula United Methodist Church, will take place Dec. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Boston Heights Costco, located at 6720 Bass Pro Drive.
• Raffle tickets for the township’s mini-Christmas trees, created by Melissa Anderson and set up at the Peninsula Library, are $3 each or five for $10 and are available at the library until Dec. 19, with a drawing for the trees Dec. 20.
The next Boston trustees’ meeting will take place Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.
