Celebrating Mother’s Day

A number of area organizations will offer activities to help celebrate mom.
• AKRON — Admission to the Akron Zoo, 500 Edgewood Ave., will be free for all moms May 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission for others is $14 or $12 for seniors age 62 and older and $11 for children ages 2-14. Parking is $5. For more information, visit www.akronzoo.org/mothers-day.
• WEST AKRON — Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, 714 N. Portage Path, will once again offer all mothers a complimentary self-guided tour of the grounds and Manor House, which features Connections: Love & The Ties That Bind, an exhibit about Seiberling family relationships, on Mother’s Day, May 14. Admission for others is $19 or $9 for youth ages 3-17 and free to those younger.
• AKRON — The Summit Metro Parks will host Birding with Mom May 14 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Firestone Metro Park’s Tuscarawas Meadows Area, 2620 Harrington Road. • DOWNTOWN AKRON — The Akron-Summit County Main Library will present Sunday Movies@Main’s “The Woman King” May 14 at 2 p.m. at 60 S. High St. The 2022 film stars Viola Davis as General Nanisca, the leader of a group of all-female warriors from the African kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s, with a plot that was inspired by true events. • CANAL FULTON — The Canal Fulton Rotary Club’s 16th annual “Mother of All Races” will take place May 13 at 8 a.m. with a 5K run/walk, a 5K competitive walk and a 10K run, starting and ending at Northwest High School, 8580 Erie Ave. N. Special registration pricing is available for mother/daughter and mother/son teams. This event is Rotary’s major fundraiser, with over 90% of the club’s funding distributed to individuals in need throughout the community.
