Fairlawn hosts Shop with a Cop

FAIRLAWN — The Fairlawn Police Department’s Shop with a Cop event begins selling raffle tickets in October each year to raise money for the shopping event, with all proceeds helping to fund gift cards for children selected by local schools to shop for gifts for themselves and family members. This year’s event was held Dec. 3, with 138 children picked up by uniformed officers in cruisers and driven to the Fairlawn Kiwanis Community Center to enjoy breakfast with officers and Santa and Mrs. Claus. Shown below are several children and an officer visiting with Santa Claus. A Copley officer is pictured above with other children posing with Santa. After breakfast, each child received a gift donated by the First Responders Children’s Foundation and were then escorted to Walmart in a parade of cruisers to begin their shopping excursion. This year each child received a $200 gift card. Shown at near right is one officer helping children with their purchases. Also helping out was an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper, pictured at far right shopping with another young child. After making their purchases, students were able to have the gifts wrapped. Each child also received a Subway bagged lunch before being driven back home.
