Hoban falls short in state championship



CANTON — The Archbishop Hoban High School Knights football team came up short in the Division II state championship game Dec. 2 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, with Cincinnati Winton Woods winning the game 21-10.
Hoban jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Winton Woods responded with a touchdown early in the second quarter to take the lead. Winton Woods scored again in the second quarter, giving the team a 14-3 lead at halftime.
Shown at right at the start of the second half, Hoban senior linebacker Caleb Kepler runs into the end zone to score a touchdown after stripping the football from the Winton Woods running back. The touchdown from Kepler brought Hoban within four points of taking over — 14-10. However, Winton Woods added another touchdown in the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-10. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.
