AKRON — As a result of the increase in COVID-19 cases and hospital bed use and admissions in Summit County, the Center For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has moved the county from Level Medium/yellow to Level High/orange. Due to the increase in community spread, Summit County Public Health (SCPH) will offer a drive-thru clinic for COVID-19 vaccinations Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at its facility, 1867 W. Market St. Shown above and at right from past clinics are participants getting vaccinated.
The Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Novavax vaccines will be offered in accordance with CDC guidelines, with Novavax available only to those who have not had a previous COVID-19 vaccination. Walk-ins will be accepted and masks are required at the clinic.
SCPH will offer Pfizer and Moderna second booster doses four or more months after the date of the first booster dose to those who are age 50 and older; ages 12 and older (Pfizer) and 18 or older (Moderna) who are moderately or severely immunocompromised; or those who received the Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine for their first shot and booster.
Health officials are encouraging those who have and have not been vaccinated to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 by staying home if sick, even with mild symptoms; maintaining social distancing of at least 6 feet with non-household members; wearing a mask in public; and following good hygiene standards, such as washing hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using hand sanitizer frequently, avoiding touching your face and covering coughs and sneezes.
