BARBERTON: Officers stopped a driver for a traffic violation March 10 and noticed an odor of alcohol on the man and that his speech was slurred. The Laubach Drive man failed field sobriety tests and was charged with OVI and cited for marked lanes.
A 25th Street Northwest woman reported March 10 several items were stolen from her unlocked car.
A Northview Avenue man reported March 10 two packages were stolen from his front porch.
Employees of a Wooster Road North store reported March 10 a man loaded six cases of water that were out on the sidewalk and left in his vehicle.
Officers responded to a Poplar Street home for an open burn March 11. They found a man burning a mattress, issued a summons and used a hose to put the fire out.
Police attempted to make a traffic stop March 11 for a driver speeding on West Hopocan Avenue, but the man failed to comply. Police began a pursuit and arrested the man driving the vehicle.
Officers called to 14th Street Northwest and Shannon Avenue March 11 for an argument found a man with a young child. As officers attempted to speak to the man he took off running, leaving the child behind. They chased the man and charged him with violating a protection order, obstructing official business and child endangering. The man was taken to the Summit County Jail.
Police stopped a driver March 11 for expired plates and determined the man was driving under suspension and had a warrant through the Brecksville Police Department. He was issued two citations and transferred to Brecksville police.
Officers responded to an East Hiram Street home March 12 for a man who appeared intoxicated or under the influence of drugs arguing with his mother and brother. The man was observed yelling at his brother and then attempted to push through officers to get to his brother. He was charged with disorderly conduct and taken to the Barberton City Jail.
Police responded to a Wooster Road West gas station March 12 for a man passed out behind the wheel of a truck. They administered Narcan, and the man woke and provided officers with several false names. The Kentucky Avenue man was found to have warrants and a smoking pipe was found in his vehicle. He was taken to the Barberton City Jail.
A Central Avenue man reported March 12 his and his neighbor’s mailboxes were struck by a vehicle and pulled from the ground.
A 28th Street Northwest woman reported March 13 a box of dog food was stolen from her front porch.
Police received a call March 14 about a band practicing, creating loud music. Officers spoke with the man responsible for the band and issued a summons for the sound-amplifying devices.
Officers responded to a Norwood Street home March 15 for threats being made by a son toward his parents. The father told police his son threatened to beat him up and burn the house down. After responding to the home three nights in a row, they charged the son with domestic violence and took him to the Summit County Jail.
Officers noticed a flashlight in the woods and a man on the CSX Railroad property March 15. He told police CSX had abandoned the property and it was now his. The Cross Street man was charged with trespassing and said he would leave the property.
Police saw two other men trespassing on the CSX Railroad property March 15. Both had warrants and were taken to the Barberton City Jail.
Officers observed a man passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle March 15 in a school zone. They woke the man, who mumbled and failed field sobriety tests. The man was charged with OVI, “failure to give full attention” and stopping in the roadway.

COVENTRY: A Hillcrest Street woman was arrested for theft of $31 in items and banned from a Manchester Road store March 11 after she concealed items and attempted to leave without paying for them.
Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports that someone was walking around the parking lot of a West Waterloo Road business March 12. Deputies viewed video surveillance and searched the property, but did not find the person. Later that day they saw a man on an electric scooter approach the business and recognized him from the video. They attempted to stop him at a gas station but he fled on the bike. The Akron Police Department stopped him, and deputies advised him he was being detained because he fit the description of a person seen trespassing inside a fenced area and connected with a break-in and theft of a catalytic converter at the business. The man provided false identification but was identified, and deputies found a portable saw, charger, five saw blades, tools and money from the business and three credit cards bearing the names of other people in his possession. The Sheridan Avenue man was charged with breaking and entering, obstruction of official business, possession of criminal tools, trespassing, driving under suspension and operating a motorized bike on a public road and taken to the Summit County Jail.
Deputies investigated the theft of a vehicle from a South Arlington Road business March 13. Employees gave deputies video surveillance of a man who entered the vehicle around midnight and drove it away. They told deputies there had been another vehicle stolen from the lot, but a passerby found it with a flat tire abandoned along the road, and it was recovered.
A Lakota Avenue man reported March 13 a former employee was pounding on his door and urging him to come out and fight. Deputies located the man nearby and advised him he would be arrested if he returned. He agreed to have no contact with the complainant, who declined to file charges.
The manager of a South Arlington Road storage facility reported March 15 a customer was yelling obscenities and accusing someone there of stealing things from his unit. She stated there were no threats or violence, but asked the matter be documented.

GREEN: On March 5, Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated the break-in of a shed behind an East Turkeyfoot Lake Road church and theft of a lawnmower.
A Shiver Road man reported March 6 a collection agency contacted him to collect an unpaid bill of $328 and he discovered his brother used his identity to open a utility account.
The manager called deputies to a South Arlington Road business March 7 for a customer who created a disturbance. The customer was gone before deputies arrived, but they attempted to contact him and advise him he is banned from the business.
Employees of a Massillon Road store reported March 9 two women left with two carts of unpaid merchandise. Employees grabbed one of the two carts and reached into the women’s car to grab other merchandise. During the scuffle, an employee dropped a cellphone and one of the women attempted to grab it and dropped a bag full of stolen phones. The women left in the vehicle. Deputies reviewed video surveillance and attempted to locate the owner of the vehicle, which is registered to a New Philadelphia man.
Deputies responded to a Graybill Road home March 10 after a man reported someone damaged a sliding door in a failed attempt to gain entry.
Also March 10 deputies responded to reports that a man was drinking liquor on the sidewalk in front of an Arlington Ridge Road store. He was belligerent with deputies, used racial slurs, refused to identify himself and was charged with disorderly conduct and having an open container of liquor in public. Due to his level of intoxication, he was taken to a hospital.
A Greensburg Road woman reported March 11 someone entered her home and stole liquor. She showed deputies messages she received on a social media page that referenced being inside her home. Deputies contacted her ex-boyfriend, who denied being in the home, and advised him to have no contact with her.
On March 13, deputies investigated the theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle on South Arlington Road.
Deputies reviewed video surveillance from two residences on Bonshire Road March 14 after a resident reported the driver of a vehicle lost control and came into her yard, spun around and drove across it, causing turf damage.
A Nine Iron Drive woman reported March 15 her ex-husband put a camera in her vehicle and she planned to cut the wire to it.
Information about a stolen firearm was reported to a national database March 15 after a man reported his pistol was stolen from an Auberry Drive residence.
A Barth Drive woman reported March 15 a caller asked for her personal information, stating it was needed in order to issue a stimulus check. She stated she provided information, then felt uneasy and closed her bank account.
An employee of a Town Park Boulevard business reported March 15 someone damaged the exhaust system of his vehicle in a failed attempt to steal the catalytic converter.

LAKEMORE: Police responded to a Raymond Avenue home March 12 after a man reported his ex-girlfriend has been contacting him despite telling her to stop. The man asked a report be made.
A Front Street man told police March 19 a man visiting his home stole his bankcard and withdrew money from his account. He said the man was arrested on warrants by the Springfield Police Department, but he could not provide the name of the person.

NEW FRANKLIN: A Whitwood Drive woman reported March 6 someone posing as an Amazon representative contacted her and told her there was an unauthorized purchase of a $500 phone on her account. The representative then transferred her call to someone claiming to be a representative of her financial institution and said that $9,990 had been transferred from her savings account to an unknown Russian gambling entity. The woman was then told to withdraw $5,000 from her account and utilize a Bitcoin Depot machine to send the money to a secure wallet. The next day she was told to withdraw an additional $4,990, at which point she became suspicious and realized she had been the victim of a theft.
Police responded to a Coleman Drive home March 13 after a woman reported she got into a verbal argument with a man after he took her phone and when she went to grab it he elbowed her in the ribs. The Wingate Avenue man admitted to taking her phone and warrants were issued for theft and assault.
Officers noticed a vehicle pull into a storage facility March 13 at 2:48 a.m. and spoke with the driver and passenger. It was determined the man driving had a warrant and two glass smoking pipes were found in the vehicle’s doors. The Beulah Avenue man and the Massillon woman were both charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police stopped a driver who failed to dim their headlights when passing officers March 14. A strong odor of marijuana was observed and a search of the vehicle revealed a glass jar with a green leafy substance in the backseat. The Wooster man was charged with possession of drugs and given a citation for failing to dim his headlights.
A Kellar Road man reported March 16 someone stole a catalytic converter and muffler from his vehicle between March 11 and 15.
Officers responded to a traffic accident March 18 and found a vehicle in a ditch crashed into a tree. Officers noticed an odor of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath and he told them he fell asleep while driving. The Schneiderman Lane man failed field sobriety tests and was charged with OVI and failure to control.

SPRINGFIELD: The following incidents took place at a South Arlington Road store: on Feb. 26 a woman was charged with theft after failing to scan items and concealing $1,065 in cosmetics in her purse and drug charges were pending after a white powder in a pill bottle was found; on March 1 a homeless woman was charged with theft and resisting arrest after she consumed food not paid for; on March 2 a Massillon woman was charged with theft after stuffing $369 worth of unpaid merchandise into bags, an Oakland Avenue man was charged with possession of drugs, resisting arrest and obstruction after he fought with a person in the parking lot and then he dropped a bindle with white powder on it; on March 3 a Canton woman was charged with theft after skip-scanning $308 in items and a River Street woman was charged with theft after skip-scanning $262 in items.
Officers stopped a driver after observing the vehicle weaving in and out of its lane Feb. 26. They smelled alcohol on the man’s breath and he had slurred speech. He was charged with OVI and a marked lane violation.
Officers spoke with a man outside a South Arlington Road gas station who was consuming alcohol Feb. 26. The man also had a bag of food items. The Urbana man was charged with disorderly conduct while intoxicated.
Police observed a vehicle with a loud exhaust Feb. 27. Upon stopping the vehicle and speaking with the driver, the man said the registration expired a while ago. Officers determined his registration expired in 2016 and the man was cited for having fictitious plates.
Officers stopped a driver Feb. 27 after observing the vehicle commit several lane violations. Police smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle but the driver said she did not have anything to drink. The woman failed field sobriety tests and was charged with OVI and a marked lane violation.
Police stopped a driver for having only one brake light Feb. 28. The man driving said he did not have identification on him but provided his Social Security number, which revealed his license was suspended. A bag containing marijuana was found in the vehicle and the man was cited for driving under suspension.
Officers responded to a South Arlington Road hotel March 1 after a manager told police an employee withdraw $65 from the drawer and left. Video surveillance showed the Howard Avenue woman taking the money, and police charged her with theft.
An East Waterloo Road business owner reported March 2 a window had been broke out on a garage door sometime March 1. The owner did not notice anything missing from the business.
Officers found several parts of a cash register on the side of the road near Krumroy Road and Marvo Drive March 2. They spoke to a man who called about the cash register being there and said he believed it might have been from a series of break-ins in Coventry. The items were collected as evidence.
Police stopped a driver March 2 for having no headlights and asked to search the vehicle but the driver denied permission. Officers told the man a K9 would conduct an open-air sniff of the vehicle, and the man admitted to having marijuana in a backpack. Officers also found methamphetamine in another backpack and charged the McTarggart Drive man with possession of drugs.
Police stopped a driver for a loud exhaust March 3. The driver provided identification belonging to his brother and police determined he had warrants out of the Portage County Sheriff’s Office. The Waterloo Road man was charged with obstructing official business.
Officers stopped a driver for making an illegal left hand turn March 3. They noticed the man had slurred speech and an odor of alcohol. The man failed field sobriety tests and was charged with OVI.
Officers responded March 4 to a Canton Road storage facility after a man said his work truck had been broken into sometime between March 3 and 4 after the passenger window was broken. Several cellphones and a grease gun were stolen.
Police stopped a driver for having no license plate light March 4 and determined the vehicle registration was expired and the woman driving had a suspended license. The woman was cited for driving under suspension.
Officers responded to a South Arlington Road business March 4 after an employee stated two women assaulted her. The employee told police the verbal altercation turned physical and one of the women kicked her vehicle.
Police responded to a South Arlington Road hotel for an unresponsive man March 4. Officers performed lifesaving procedures on the man and located a clear plastic container with methamphetamine inside a pocket. The Sylvan Avenue man was charged with possession of drugs and obstruction.
