Green hosting annual FreedomFest

GREEN — The City of Green’s annual FreedomFest will take place June 25 from noon to 11 p.m. at Boettler Park, 5300 Massillon Road.
Family activities and games, live music, skydivers and fireworks are planned.
Activities will run from noon to 9 p.m. and include giant versions of Sorry, Battleship, horseshoes, Jenga and tic-tac-toe, as well as others. Also to be offered are a bounce house, slides, a zip line, a 9-hole miniature golf course and more. In addition, local vendors will serve food from noon to 11 p.m.
The live music, offered in partnership with 98.1 KDD, includes Akron Symphonic Winds from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and Past Time Band from 4 to 6 p.m.
Scheduled activities also include: Yoga with Deneen Wittlinger, 10:30 a.m.; Dianna Durkin Dancers and balloon artist Phil Palmer, 2 to 4 p.m.; MacConmara Irish Dancers, 6 to 6:30 p.m.; sky divers, 8:15 p.m.; a headliner band to be announced, 8:30 to 10 p.m.; and fireworks, 10:15 p.m.
In addition, the inaugural FreedomFest basketball, volleyball and pickleball tournaments will take place June 24. The tournament finals will take place the next day at 9 a.m.

Raintree 5K and Fun Run set for July 4

GREEN — The City of Green’s Raintree 5K and Fun Run will be offered July 4 at the Raintree Golf and Event Center, located at 4350 Mayfair Road.
The family-friendly race is open to runners ages 5 and up, with the 5K starting at 7:30 a.m. and the 1-mile Fun Run starting at 8:45 a.m.
Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers as well as in various age groups.
The first 300 registered runners will receive a unisex soft short-sleeved tee. To register, visit active.com. Same day registration will be open from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at the Raintree Golf and Event Center. All runners may pick up race day packets at this time.
Race door prizes include one free pair of shoes donated by Ritchie’s Sporting Goods and five 18-hole golf passes (including cart rental) donated by Raintree Golf and Event Center.
Event proceeds benefit First Tee of Akron, a youth golf instruction program, according to race organizers.
The Raintree 5K is the second race in the City of Green Great Eight Race Series. Those who complete five of the eight races will receive a free race series hoodie.
