Trustees address residents’ concerns

At a virtual meeting of the Sharon Board of Trustees Jan. 12, township officials addressed residents’ concerns.
Trustee Joe Canestraro reported he received an anonymous complaint from a resident about a law enforcement support flag on a telephone pole on Sharon-Copley Road east of Sharon Circle. He said the resident sent photos of the flag along with a letter calling it a “political statement” and stating it should be removed.
Zoning Inspector Neil Jones said the power pole belongs to the City of Wadsworth.
Trustee Kimberly Bolas Miller said the resident should contact the City of Wadsworth with this concern.
Canestraro also addressed concerns from Kings Ridge Boulevard residents whose homes are in close proximity to nearby American Natural Stone. The company was supposed to plant trees on its property that abuts the residential development but has yet to do so.
Jones said he would talk to representatives of American Natural Stone about planting these trees and will update the trustees on the matter at the next board meeting.
In other business:
• Trustee Brian Guccion announced a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the township’s zoning code has been scheduled for Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. and will be held virtually. According to the township’s website, the proposed amendment was applied for by Mike Burnianek, who is requesting to rezone property on Ridge Road from R-1 (Residential) and I-1 (Industrial) to R-2 (Residential). • Service Director Bob Turek announced directional boring on State Road would soon start and should be completed by April 30.
Guccion told Turek to make sure the road is not closed before 8:30 a.m. to allow motorists to commute to work and also said to be sure to alert the Medina County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio State Highway Patrol about the project.
Turek said he is unsure whether this year’s Spring Clean-Out Day would take place.
Guccion suggested township officials plan on holding it for the time being and suggested a tentative date of May 1, but said these plans are subject to change based on the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Miller discussed choosing a date for the Sharon Women’s Club fall craft show at Sharon Community Park. She suggested a tentative date of Sept. 18, but added she is concerned about a potential conflict with sports activities in the park that day.
Miller said eight members of the Executive Board of the Sharon Women’s Club want to meet at the Administration Building Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. The trustees said they are fine with that.
Miller also expressed her condolences to the family of long-time resident Don Simmons, who died Jan. 3. She said Simmons had previously served as a Sharon trustee and as a Medina County commissioner.
• Jones said there are unused slate tiles at the maintenance garage, and anyone interested in obtaining some for free can contact him at the Zoning Department at 330-239-4406.
Jones also said the toilets at the 1840 House need to be replaced, as they are more than 40 years old.
Jones stated he issued permits for two single-family homes and one addition since the last board meeting.
• Fiscal Officer Christine Lawson reported she received a quote from CityLink in Wadsworth for Wi-Fi and phone service for township buildings. She said the township currently pays $550 per month for Wi-Fi and phone service from Spectrum, but she added CityLink’s service is less expensive and more reliable.
Canestraro said he wants to make sure CityLink’s internet service is not overloaded.
The board approved a motion to purchase internet service from CityLink. The trustees said more information on CityLink’s phone service is needed before making a decision on that service.
Lawson also said the township’s servers with Bay Pointe Technology need to be replaced or the township needs to switch to another vendor. She said Bay Pointe Technology would charge $50 per month for each work station. No decision has yet been made on the matter.
Also at the meeting, the board approved the following:
√ payment of $1,400 to Alpha Gutters for maintenance of the storage building’s gutters and downspouts;
√ purchase of a new handrail for the post office for $2,700;
√ a resolution to renew the positions of three members of the Board of Zoning Appeals;
√ a resolution to renew the positions of two members of the Zoning Commission;
√ the township’s stipend for policing services from the Medina County Sheriff’s Office; and
√ a 2-percent pay increase for all township employees.
