Trustees OK zoning change

After a public hearing, the Granger Board of Trustees approved a proposed zoning map amendment during the Aug. 9 meeting.
The amendment included rezoning the National Design Mart site, located at 2255 Medina Road, from R-1 (Residential) to C-2 (Commercial).
National Design Mart President Ryan King said the rezoning was needed to add warehouse space to the business.
King’s attorney, Betsy Hartschuh, said the addition of space would not increase noise, traffic or lighting.
In other business:
• Service Director Mark Novak reported he has been working on mowing and patching in township subdivisions.
Novak said he received word from the Ohio Department of Transportation that the closed stretch of Remsen Road near the bridge will be paved before school starts this month.
• Fire Chief Jim Paulett announced the Granger Fire Department will start holding American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR classes for township residents starting Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at the fire station, 3737 Ridge Road. He said classes are currently scheduled for the third Monday of each month. Paulett said class size is limited to 12 people and anyone who wants to register is encouraged to call the fire station at 330-239-2111.
Paulett reported the Granger Firefighters Association recently spent less than $4,000 to purchase five handheld thermal imaging cameras for the township’s firefighters.
• Sexton Roberta Gifford said she handled one cremation burial and one full burial, and she sold two resident lots and approved one foundation in July.
Gifford and the trustees addressed recent bids to perform maintenance at Granger Fairview Cemetery on Wilbur Road. After discussion, Trustee Richard Pace said he believes the best thing to do would be to review and revise the improvement project and ask the companies to rebid based on the revised specifications.
Also at the meeting, the board approved the following:
√ hiring Herman Brothers to repair a pipe on Remsen Road near State Road for an amount not to exceed $1,800;
√ a then-and-now purchase order for repairs to the fire department’s tender from Parker Truck for $1,325;
√ hiring David Williams as a probationary firefighter trainee;
√ a resolution to amend appropriations in the township’s cemetery fund regarding proposed improvements to Granger Fairview Cemetery;
√ supplemental appropriations in reference to repairs to the Granger Township Historical Society; and
√ signing depository documents from Westfield Bank.
Trustees will hold a special meeting Aug. 21 at 8:30 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, 1627 Wilbur Road, to review the cemetery site, pay bills and anything else that may come before the board. A regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. at the Granger Administration Building, 3717 Ridge Road.
